My child is struggling with the sudden onset of unwanted hair growth!

First, reassure them that it's a completely normal part of growing up and that most of their peers are in the same situation! It's easy for them to think they are the only one having a hard time with unwanted hair growth, especially if others are shaving, waxing, etc.

What is the benefit of electrolysis over other methods of hair removal?

For many young people, unwanted hair (mostly on the face) can cause major self esteem issues. They will likely be removing it for the rest of their life anyway, so electrolysis has the benefit of saving them time, money, and effort for years to come, in addition to boosting their confidence now!

What age should they be to have electrolysis performed?

This is highly dependent on their maturity level and understanding of the process. I am happy to consult with you and your child to discuss their desire to have the hair removed.

What areas are typical for girls to have removed?

Upper lip hair, bushy eyebrows, "unibrow" hair, random chin hairs, and even a few chest hairs are not uncommon complaints for young ladies. Some also struggle with dark hair on their arms and hands. Underarm and bikini line hair removal may also be sought out by some.

What areas are typical for boys to have removed?

The unibrow is most common. Young men can also have fast growing, unwanted hair on the nape of the neck and may also have hair on their shoulders and backs that they really don't want.

How often will they have to have appointments?

It depends on the exact situation, where the hair is located, and the current removal method. Ideally, they would come in frequently, maybe even weekly if it's facial hair we are working on removing. This way, they have it removed as it comes in, rather than have to wait months in between sessions.

Will electrolysis require any downtime from their normal routine?

Every effort will be made to minimize redness and inflammation. Everyone reacts differently

however, most people aren't red for very long at all (if any) after an appointment and simply go about their life as usual. Needing to miss school or other activities is highly unlikely.

My child is very embarrassed to talk to a stranger about their unwanted hair.

I completely understand. You can reassure them that the office is in a private setting and that they are more than welcome to ask questions. I want to hear from them to know that this is what THEY want. I will not perform electrolysis on any minor if I feel they are being forced into it at any point.

Can they treatment begin right away?

Most likely. If I suspect that their particular hair growth could be caused by an underlying

hormone issue, a medical evaluation prior to treatment and a letter from their doctor may be necessary.
